Who We Are
Idem's core staff is made of carefully selected project managers and
language professionals who know how to pull together a project team
best suited to your needs.
Mariam
founded IDEM Translations, Inc. in 1983 after having worked for many
years as a translator, interpreter, and project manager for various
companies in New York City and
San Francisco, as well as for the United
Nations Development Program in New York.
Mariam holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the
Institut Universitaire des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva,
Switzerland and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the
University of Geneva. She also has an AA degree in Illustration
from the Parsons School of Design in New York. She is fluent in
French, English and Farsi and has a working knowledge of Spanish
and Russian.
Monica Moreno, Director
Communications & Strategic Accounts
Monica
Moreno manages Idem's European office headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
She obtained a B.A. in English Studies from the Universidad Complutense
of Madrid. In addition, she completed further related studies in England,
Scotland, Germany and the Netherlands. Subsequently, she was awarded
a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Translation
and Interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies
in California. Monica gained practical experience in the translation
field at PeopleSoft, Lucent Technologies, and the United Nations Headquarters
prior to joining IDEM's Palo Alto office as Project Manager.
Monica, a native of Spain, returned
there in September 1999 to start IDEM's European operations.
Elaine
was born and raised in Germany and is a graduate of the Friedrich-List-School
of Economics and Business Administration in Berlin. Prior to joining IDEM
in 2003, she worked in marketing departments of several Medical
Device companies, where she has gained extensive experience in
Marketing and Sales, Layout and Graphic Design, as well as Project
Management.
Elaine has multiple roles at IDEM: she is the in-house
DTP Specialist and leads IDEM's marketing activities. Elaine is the editor of our MedTopics newsletter,
and she also maintains the IDEM website.
Mary
Grace Barasi, Project Manager - DTP-Assistant
A
graduate of Santa Clara University with a Bachelor's degree in English,
Mary Grace started
out as a Publications Assistant for a local translation agency
before she joined Idem in 1999. Prior
to her involvement with the language industry, Mary Grace studied
French and Japanese, was involved with SCU's literary journal as
an assistant associate editor and worked for an environmental law
firm as a legal assistant in San Jose. In addition to Project Management,
Mary Grace is also IDEM’s official technical troubleshooter and
purchasing officer.
Nathalie Stewart, Senior
Translator - QA Manager
Born
to a bilingual French/English family, Nathalie grew up and studied in France, Great Britain and the United States. She
studied Spanish and Russian at Université de
Paris-X-Nanterre in Paris (France), obtained a Master's Degree
in International Studies (Reading, Berkshire, UK) and went on to train at the Ecole Supérieure d'Interprètes et de
Traducteurs in Paris. Nathalie has been living
in California for the past 8 years. She joined IDEM
in 2001 as a Project Manager, in-house translator of Russian and
French, and QA specialist, providing
detail-oriented quality assurance and proofreading.
She is also IDEM's Internal Auditor for the ISO 9001:2000 quality
standard.
Hamid Nayini, Project Manager
- Office Manager
Hamid joined IDEM in 2001. He holds a degree in
English Literature from Cal State University, Northridge. He is fluent
in French as he has spent most of his childhood in Monte Carlo,
Monaco. Hamid financed his university studies working for Wells Fargo
in Los Angeles and brings his very much needed banking experience to
assist the Accounts Receivable/Payable Department. While mainly
focused on project management and office management duties in the last
three years, Hamid gained valuable insight into our clients’
profiles, habits and needs, as well as grasping an understanding of
how to use IDEM’s strengths to better assist our clients.
With this experience, he has added marketing, sales and PR to
his general project management and administrative duties.
Grettel
Echandi, Project
Manager
Grettel
was born and raised in Costa Rica where she obtained a Bachelor’s
degree in Computer Science from the University of Central America (UACA).
She gained extensive experience in IT sales and marketing in
her country. In 1999 she moved to the USA and has worked for years as
a translator, project manager and owner of a localization company
specialized in IT translations for companies such as Oracle, Siebel,
Cisco, Patrol Software, etc. Grettel
joined IDEM in 2004. In
addition to project managing some of our legal and medical accounts
and taking charge of all accounts receivable, Grettel also assists
with in-house quality assurance and translation review.
Amy Lacoste, Project
Manager
 Born
and raised in New England, Amy earned her Bachelor’s degree in
English Literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
After graduating she relocated to California, where she attended
Humboldt State University and completed a Master’s degree with a
dual concentration -- English Literature and Teaching Writing –
along with minors in Teaching ESL and French. A lifelong lover of
French language and culture, she lived in Paris for several years,
where she worked as a freelance English language copywriter,
translator and editor. Amy joined IDEM in 2005. Aside from project
management duties, she is called upon to assist with in-house QA and
English language editing.
Andrea Barnett, Project Manager

Andrea grew up in California and spent a year in Italy during high
school where she became fluent in Italian. She received a BA in
linguistics from UC Davis, where she studied Italian, German,
Hungarian and Latin. She went on to earn an MA in Speech Pathology
from Northwestern University. After spending several years as a
speech pathologist followed by a year in an MA program in Classical
Languages at San Francisco State University, she joined the
localization industry as project manager in 1999. Andrea joined Idem
in 2007 and her roles include vendor manager as well as project
manager.
