The Idem team combines a core group based in Palo Alto and is supported by a European Production Team with the best translators and localization professionals from around the globe.
 
All members of the Idem team are fully committed to working closely together and with the client to provide the best results and the fastest, most trouble-free turnaround.

Idem's staff is comprised of carefully selected project managers and language professionals who know how to pull together a project team best suited to your needs.

Mariam Nayiny – President

Mariam founded Idem Translations, Inc. in 1983 after having worked for many years as a translator, interpreter, and project manager for companies in New York City and San Francisco, as well as for the United Nations Development Program in New York.

Mariam holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the Institut Universitaire des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Geneva. She also has an AA degree in Illustration from the Parsons School of Design in New York. She is fluent in French, English and Farsi and has a working knowledge of Spanish and   Russian.

Marygrace Barasi – Senior Project Manager  

A graduate of Santa Clara University with a Bachelor's degree in English, Marygrace started out as a Publications Assistant for a local translation agency before she joined Idem in 1999. Prior to her involvement with the language industry, Marygrace studied French and Japanese.

Grettel Echandi – Senior Project Manager

 Born and raised in Costa Rica, Grettel obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Central America (UACA) and gained extensive experience in IT sales and marketing in her home country. After moving to the USA, she has worked as a translator, project manager and owner of a localization company specializing in translations for high-tech clients such as Oracle and Cisco. Grettel joined Idem in 2004 and utilizes her background on our IT accounts and also helps manage our legal and medical accounts.

Nancy Kellen – Global Solutions Manager

Nancy has worked in the language field for 15 years, having held various sales, training and account management positions for some of the world's largest translation providers. Fluent in English and Spanish, she obtained a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University, and completed additional studies in Mexico where she lived abroad for seven years.  In her role as Global Solutions Manager at Idem, Nancy will be looking for opportunities to leverage her expertise with new clients, addressing their specific needs and ensuring the highest levels of service.

Amy Lacoste – Senior Project Manager

Born and raised in New England, Amy earned her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After graduating she relocated to California, where she attended Humboldt State University and completed a Master’s degree with a dual concentration in English Literature and Teaching Writing, along with minors in Teaching ESL and French. A lifelong lover of French language and culture, she lived in Paris for several years, where she worked as a freelance English language copywriter, translator and editor. Amy joined Idem in 2005. Aside from project management duties, she is called upon to assist with in-house QA and English language editing.

Almudena Leal – Project Manager

Almudena was born and raised in Spain and has also lived in France and Ireland for several years. She has a B.A. in Translation and Interpreting studies from the University of Granada and another degree in English studies from the University of Seville. She worked as a translator before moving on to a full time postion as a localization project manager, wherein she gained 4 years of valuable experience prior to joinging Idem in 2009. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian.

Monica Moreno – Localization Manager

Monica obtained a B.A. in English Studies from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. Subsequently, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Translation and Interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California. Prior to joining Idem Translations, Monica gained practical experience in the translation field at several IT companies and the United Nations Headquarters. Monica is specialized in the IT and Medical Device accounts and she is currently dedicated to Cisco Systems.

Yelena Okrugina – Project Manager

Yelena was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After moving to the US and graduating from Rutgers University in New Jersey with a BA in Psychology, she moved to California to attend the Monterey Institute of International Studies, from which she obtained an MA in Translation and Localization Management. Over the years Yelena studied French and Italian, which came in handy when she joined Idem in 2009.

Emily Oster – Vendor & Project Manager

Emily traded up when she left Southern California for the Bay Area in 1999. In 2003 she graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor’s Degree in French Studies (a major combining studies in Education and French) and went on to work at a charter school and then an immigration law firm before heading to the Monterey Institute of International Studies to begin work on a Master’s Degree in Translation and Localization Management, which she received in May of 2009. At Idem Emily splits her time between Vendor and Project Management and Quality Assurance. An intern at Idem for several months in 2008, she is thrilled to be back!

Nathalie Stewart – Senior Project Manager & QA Manager

Born to a bilingual French/English family, Nathalie grew up and studied in France, Great Britain and the United States. She studied Spanish and Russian at Université de Paris-X-Nanterre in Paris (France), obtained a Master's Degree in International Studies (Reading, Berkshire, UK) and went on to train at the Ecole Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs in Paris. Nathalie has been living in California for the past 12 years. She joined Idem in 2001 as a Project Manager and QA specialist, providing detail-oriented quality assurance and proofreading. She is also Idem's Internal Auditor for the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard.

We have long-term relationships with experienced translators and editors around the world who are committed to creating a translated or localized version of your product that is customized to exactly meet your unique requirements.

All have been carefully selected according to their qualifications, experience, fluency in the target language, professional recommendations, and proficiency with translation tools.

Our rigorous screening process ensures that our linguists:

  • Translate into their native language only
  • Are subject matter experts
  • Have a university degree in translation or in the subject matter
  • Have at least five years of experience working in the translation and localization industry
